MAF Holding, established in 1992 by Majid Al Futtaim, diverged from the family's retail business to focus on real estate and property management. This division from his brother Abdulla's business was solidified in 2000 through arbitration by Dubai's Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, which neatly separated their business interests. In recognition of his contributions, Majid Al Futtaim received the Royal Commendation Order from Sultan Qaboos bin Said al Said of Oman in December 2018. Majid Al Futtaim Properties, a key division of MAF Holding, is active across the MENA region, specialising in developing, owning, and managing shopping malls and hotels. Its hotel division is particularly focused on properties that are either attached to or close to its shopping malls, as well as those within its comprehensive community developments. By 2015, the company had expanded its portfolio to include twelve hotels. In 2017, Majid Al Futtaim Properties reported a profit of 2.19 billion dirhams (approximately $596.25 million), marking a 7% decline from the previous year's earnings.
